Food Pantry & Emergency Assistance
JFS maintains a food pantry with a wide variety of nutritious items for any individual or family needing temporary assistance. We also have Ingles gift cards for groceries and gas, as well as Asheville City Transit bus tickets. The JFS food pantry is the only Jewish food pantry in Western North Carolina.
Additionally, JFS can apply, on behalf of clients, to the WNC Jewish Federation Keren Ami Fund, which is dedicated to assisting Jewish individuals and families with temporary assistance for rent, utilities and other financial emergencies and crisis situations. MANNA FOOD BANK WELCOMES
JEWISH FAMILY SERVICES OF WNC TO THEIR PARTNER NETWORK.
Our JFS agency is very pleased to be accepted into the Partner Network of MANNA FOODBANK! This will allow our agency to purchase at minimal cost a vastly increased amount and variety of food pantry items to offer our clients. In addition, with encouragement from the MANNA staff, we have launched a food pantry MANNA Market one evening a month at our JFS site. The Market is open to the public, and the day and time is especially critical to individuals who are working and cannot visit pantries during the work day, and to those who depend on food stamps to supplement their family’s grocery budget but who often find that their food stamps run out before the end of the month.

Tuesday, November 25, 5:00pm-6:30pm.
We need volunteers to assist shoppers with their choices at our Market, to help with setup and cleanup of the JFS space and an individual to provide some limited “security” at the door. Contact Ariella Fleet, our JFS Social Worker for more information or to volunteer.

Announcing: The MANNA Food Helpline for WNC
The MANNA Food Helpline, a virtual call center for assistance with Food Stamp applications and re-certifications over the phone. Beyond conducting initial applications and re-certifications, our clients will greatly benefit from the ease of this user-friendly system, which simply requires a phone conversation with one of our highly-trained staff/volunteers, mailing the completed packet in a postage-paid envelope to the servicing DSS, culminating with an eligibility interview.
With our strategic marketing plan, designed to reach our target population (seniors, working families, the chronically unemployed) in all 16 counties served by MANNA, we hope to achieve the specific goal of providing an expeditious, effective means for those most in need to receive and benefit from our new streamlined program.
Our current Zone Coordinators WILL CONTINUE to provide on-site support with FNS applications and re-certifications.
